Hot Polka Dot

Hot Polka Dot is a blog that puts out some of the greatest non-professional sweets I’ve ever seen. It’s also the winner of the Canadian Food Bloggers Association best baking and dessert blog award.

These are walrus bars and involve 4 and a 1/2 cups of walnuts, shortbread, cream and spiced rum. They look like heavenly goodness. Plus that milk bottle reminds me of living in England and being excited to go to the door first thing in the morning and get the bottles of milk. Though, oddly or maybe because they were trying to expand their market, they also started to deliver flavoured, sparkling water. Way more exciting than milk (even if the milk was 3.25% and basically cream).

This is a Jones Soda Cherry Berry Lemonade Pound Cake. Whew! I have no idea how fizzy cake would taste (maybe like something out of an Enid Blyton story?) However if there were some chocolate chips thrown into this cake, I think it would satisfy every craving I ever fall victim to.

These are lemon poppy seed cookies and this is a really cute photograph. If I tried to make these cookies; however, there would be poppy seeds everywhere because I’m that person that’s always sneezing and I would sneeze and probably knock over the whole jar of poppy seeds (seriously, I’m allergic to grass. GRASS!)

These are chocolate razelnut truffles. They sound (and look) like the best dessert ever: raspberries, chocolates and hazelnuts. Not complicated (there’s only 5 ingredients) and with the key factors a dessert should have. Also, why are razelnuts not a real food yet? There’s some crazy frankenfood out there and it’s time one of them was truly beneficial to humanity.

This is a thousand layer cake and though, logically, it seems like it would take a whole lotta time to make it, I can imagine it’s worth it.

These, as the photo suggests, are cherry brownie clafoutis. I imagine these would be a great dinner party dessert.

These sound like the perfect breakfast, seriously, I would not even feel guilty for eating these at 8 am. Grapefruit yogurt cupcakes with grapefruit cream cheese icing sounds just amazing. It also doesn’t hurt that I absolutely love grapefruits:  the smell, the taste, the various ways to eat them, getting gleefully sticky when I do, everything.

I should mention that my love for grapefruit is completely overtaken by my love for bacon. I seldom eat meat but bacon is a WHOLE other story. Forget grapefruit and yogurt, I will eat bacon in a maple bacon oatmeal muffin any day, any time of day, every day.

This is a boston cream pie with a toasted almond crust. Even though Tim Hortons has a wide and ever increasing range of donut and muffin options, I always go for the boston cream one. It’s just good. You don’t mess with that.

And I’ve run out of witty things to say so just amuse yourself with these last few photos. These are caramel apple surprise cookies.

The caption says it all!

And finally, chocolate genoise orange mousse cake. I didn’t even know people made cakes from scratch anymore. Impressive.
